What is Qdetect?

Qdetect is a product designed to detect virus infections in your network. Infected workstations are detected automatically and reported in a manageable form to the network manager, or isolated on the network using Qmanage or Qnet.

Why Qdetect?

The infection of workstations can happen on any network. An infected workstation or server causes disruption and forms a risk for the remainder of the network. It is therefore crucial that the workstation be detected and the problem resolved as early as possible, so that the economic and other damage remains limited. An infected workstation will attempt to infect other systems and is often misused by hackers to send out undesired e-mail or to attack other networks. Such activities can result in serious, time-consuming and expensive complaints and even legal action. Excessive complaints damage reputations and may lead to third parties blocking your network. An infected workstation or server can leak sensitive commercial information to the internet.

How does Qdetect work?

Attempts at spreading infection are detected on the network by means of a honeypot listening in at one or more places within the network. This makes it unnecessary to carry out modifications to workstations for example by installing software. The honeypot is automatically updated to allow the detection of new viruses and worms. Since detection is based on the method used to spread the virus, previously unknown viruses are frequently detected.

What are the benefits?

Early detection puts the network manager in a position to minimise the negative consequences of an infection. Rapid intervention:

prevents infection of other systems, both within and outside your own network
Detection based on behaviour on the network. This way unknown viruses can also be detected
